The event was coordinated by CANRAD, in partnership with the Centre for the Community School (CCS); Marketing and Corporate Relations; Library Services; the Arts and Culture Unit; the School of Music, Art and Design, and the VC's office.

The aims of the event were to provide and opportunity for NMMU's senior management team to offertheir time in service of Mandela Day and the UN International Day of Service; promote literacy needs and build relationships between NMMU, and schools and communities in the metro and elsewhere.

Visits were made to the following schools:

  4. Greenville Primary School
  5. Noninzi Luzipho Primary School
  6. Kleinschool Primary School
  7. Sapphire Road Primary School
  8. Ilinge Primary School
  9. James Ndudula Primary School
