Honorary Professor Gilingwe Mayende has held senior positions in the public, private and higher education sectors in a multi-faceted professional career spanning 30 years. He is the author of the book The Land and Agrarian Question: The First Frontier of Decolonisation in South Africa, for which he conducted research while based at CANRAD. Between 1995 and 2005, Prof Mayende served as a senior public servant in the post-apartheid government, a period which included a five-year stint as Director General of the Department of Land Affairs. He is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
