Governance, economic performance and institutional trust in the Eastern Cape

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD) at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University jointly hosted a panel discussion that featured Jan Hofmeyr and Kate Lefko-Everett of the IJR in conversation with Nwabisa Makunga, Political Editor of The Herald, and Enver Motala, CANRAD Researcher.

Presentations of the results of the latest round of the Reconciliation Barometer survey and Transformation Audit were presented and then followed by a discussion on issues of governance and institutional trust, economic performance and household wellbeing, and how they find bearing in the popular sentiments of people in the Eastern Cape.

Apart from the public presentation Kate Lefko-Everett and Jan Hofmeyr took part in a dedicated session with NMMU students in which they discussed the results from the 2011 Reconciliation Barometer survey and then answered various questions posed by the students surrounding the survey findings.
